The confidence vote in numbers

Reuters has put together a factbox, to help us understand who stands where in the confidence vote, which is expected to take place on Tuesday.

Although there is a massive degree of uncertainty, as both the government and the opposition are fighting to the last minute to secure (or buy) the vote of independent MPs, Reuters’ data gives us an idea of who are the key parties and MPs in a confidence vote that will decide the future of the government. SP may ask Congress to oust it’s finance minister and more

Will the UPA, and the Congress-led, government survive? This is the question on everybody’s mind today.

The answer is likely to be yes, but it might come at a very high price.

The Samajwadi party, which is considering to support the UPA government following the near-certain exit of the Left bloc, is likely to demand the removal of Congress’ finance minister Palaniappan Chidambaram and oil minister Murli Deora, as well as the resignation of RBI’s governor YV Reddy, according to the Times of India.

Now that is something.
